s3 Research Stream Three The third of four research threads is a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE). DCEs are used to explore individual preferences and shed light on the drivers of human behaviour. In this research stream, a DCE will examine the attitudes and preferences of retrenched workers towards programs designed to assist them to find employment and/or add to their education and skills portfolio. The DCE will take place in years 2 and 4 and examine the extent to which preferences change over time. The findings will provide important evidence for the design of employment interventions by determining the extent to which preferences influence successful pathways for retrenched workers. The DCE will also examine their willingness to move to other sectors, especially service sector employment – such as the NDIS or aged care, where employment prospects are higher but pay is generally lower. The DCE will provide insights into the extent to which explicit worker intentions and preferences determine employment outcomes. Research Streams Stream One Five-year longitudinal study of workers affected by closures across the automotive industry. Stream Two A series of qualitative interviews designed to add depth to our understanding. Stream Three Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE). Stream Four Community survey in affected regions.
